Grace Street Fellowship

Thanksgiving at Grace

By Jim Burgin

Testimonies around the Table

T he Sunday before Thanksgiving is one of my favorite Sundays of the year.  Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.” At Grace Street Fellowship, the Sunday before Thanksgiving is the one moment in the year where we collectively express to God and to each other what we are thankful for.

I do know our church very well, and I am already eagerly anticipating what we are going to hear from each other.  No one could say anything other than that this has been one of the most difficult years on record.  Yet, I predict – in fact, I know, that we will hear expressions of praise and thanksgiving to God like never before. “I can’t wait!”

Thanksgiving Meal
A fter church this Sunday, you, your family, and your friends are invited to enjoy our traditional Thanksgiving meal. Just walk across the street to the Lockwood Center to enjoy the food and fellowship.  As with everything we are doing in this season, we are taking care to follow all protocols for COVID-19.

So, we will be spread out, not just in the gym, but in the Sunday school classrooms, and the picnic area outside too. Instead of making it pot-luck like we normally do, this year, the church will provide the meat, the dressing, and all “the fixins.”  I am getting hungry just writing about it now.

If you would like to contribute something to this meal, we ask that you bring a “store-bought” dessert.  Yes, we will all miss the special recipes, and the delicious taste of Grace Street’s home-cooking, but we also know that we need to do things just a little differently in this season.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me here!

Looking forward to seeing you Sunday. It is going to be such a blessed time.
